Nasty Gas tank = Unhappy Bike

So in the process of getting my bike up and running the way I want it going, I decided to clean out the gas tank. I took my bike for a test ride down to my parents place in Faber, Va. I was noticing some hesitation and it seemed to be loosing power sometimes. Well, take a look at what I found when i cleaned out the gas tank!

gas tank sludge
This rust sludge was actually in the tank.

more gas tank sludge
Luckly my fuel system has a filter in line before the gas goes into the carbs, because I am sure this would have done some serious damage!

Before pouring the top 4/5ths of the gas back into the tank, we ran it through an old shirt to get more of the rust out. I need to figure out a coating I can put on the inside of the tank.

My New Honda CB750 Motorcycle - 2008.11.23I once watched Motorcycle Diaries with forlorn jealousy, but no more. I have joined the forces of 2 wheeled motored vehicle drivers. Last week I found an eBay deal I couldn't pass up (eBay item link). A 1975 DOHC Honda CB750F which has a fresh coat of dark green paint and comes with plenty of smiles, at 79HP and 750cc's, it's a force to be dealt with on the road....

Motorcycle Safety Gear - 2008.11.23The Honda CD750 is a fun bike to ride, based on my limited experience riding, but it has a lot of power, is simple enough that I can work on it, and is old enough that it has some class to it that you won't find in a newer bike. Plus, it's pretty cheap compared to most bikes out there. My brother has already gotten two somewhat working ones, and a friend of mine, Noah, has a fully working one. For these reasons, I decided to snag one...

Soaring on the Currents above Waynesburo - 2006.07.02Yesterday I checked another item off my list of things I must do before I die. I got the chance to go glidering (word coiled by Maya)! The day was almost perfect, nice and hot which leads to an abundance of thermals being created. We arrived at the airport at 10:45, both up early excited...

Hang Gliding Adventures - 2008.10.30 I have recently started doing hang gliding in Northern Virginia. I am taking lessons with John Middleton or Silver Wings Hang Gliding, and excellent instructor based out of Arlington, Va. He starts you out with some very basic stuff, like how to hold the glider and slowly works you up to running on flat ground with the glider, then a slight hill, then a little steeper. Usually by the end of the first ...

Fall Break 2005: Excursion to West Virginia - 2005.10.21 When I heard that we only get one day off for fall break, I decided I really wanted to make it count. I've been going on and off to VT's Outdoor Club meetings and heard about a day long rafting trip to the upper section of the Galley River in West Virginia, they had worked out a deal for about $70 which included a couple of meals, wetsuits, and of course, some of the best white water rafting to be had in the nation.

Free Running... - 2005.10.21 I know what you are thinking: Free running? what in God's name is that, right? That's pretty much what I said to, when my hall mate Paul and my roommate, Jason, mentioned it. As it turns out, free running is basically, running through obstacle courses, jumping off buildings, through railings, and doing pretty much anything else that would be deemed dangerous by most people. So, as soon as I heard about it, I was naturally interested.

Luke and Kenny go to Michael's for pong - 2005.10.23 After not partying for 3 weekends, we decided we were more than past due. Plus, I heard that Aaron was coming into town, so I wanted to see him again. We headed out about 8 to some outdoor club party that ended up not existing. But then we decided that we'd just go to Michael's and hang out. Turned into a fun night, with wall punching, beer pong, sign stealing, and walking all over campus at 2 am.

Spitting fire... fun fun - 2005.10.30 Well, I stayed in for the Boston College game last Thursday, and as a result decided that it was time to try something new. Fire spitting :-) hey, you only live once. I'm going to get as much mileage outa this world as I can!

Well, I made it to VT - 2005.09.30 Despite the fact that Virginia Tech's mascot is an over size turkey, I decided to come here after all. I looked into the Engineering Program at UVA, and just couldn't bring myself to be there, even though I did get in at both schools.

Bourbon Street, anyone? - 2006.05.07 Where to start with an update to this page, somewhere between going to St Kitts for a week at the beginning and spending the spring break in New Orleans and all the all nighters between then and now, it has all become one big blur.
